Alan Kravets has applied real estate auction strategies to the sales process for a wide variety of real estate assets from timberland in Chile to residential properties in the Caribbean to commercial properties in Canada and from the east to west coasts of the United States. As Executive Vice President and Principal of HilcoReal, his experience not only in the real estate auction industry but the legal arena as an attorney in private practice with concentration and expertise in real estate law, banking, turn-arounds and workouts during his 26-year legal career is a tremendous advantage to the company.
Alan has worked with individuals, investors, developers, financial institutions, REIT’s, hedge funds, private equity funds, homebuilders, the hospitality and golf industry, healthcare providers, business owners and corporate America as a broker and consultant.
He has structured property disposition strategies for many financial institutions. As a former partner and president of another national real estate auction firm, he was the principal architect that developed the strategic auction sale solutions. Most recently resulting in the sale of 60 condominium units throughout Puerto Rico and was a key participant in the workout between Donald Trump and a group participant lender, resulting in the $19 million sellout of the remaining units of Trump Plaza of the Palm Beaches, for the successful auction sales of Michigan Place Condominiums and 220 South State Street in Chicago, 100 properties for Conrail in four cities, 44 properties for BP Oil throughout Ohio, 46 properties for Amoco in three states, a 30 million, 25-property portfolio across Canada, and the $19 million sale of a 400 acre equestrian estate in Barrington Hills, Illinois among many others. Alan has been actively involved in auction sales and workouts totaling over a billion dollars.
Alan frequently lectures on real estate, brokerage, and auction matters for Continuing Legal Education and various Realtor and auction associations. He has also lectured on legal disposition aspects of problem loans in programs sponsored by the Turnaround Management Association, Federal Home Loan Banks, and the National Council of Savings Institutions and in numerous other real estate forums from coast-to-coast. He was chosen as a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society and invited to membership in The Economic Club of Chicago. Alan is a former Board Member and active in the International Association of Attorneys and Executives in Real Estate (AECRE), the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association (IHLA). He is also on the Advisory Board for the Center for Real Estate law at The John Marshall School of Law.
Complementing his professional affiliations, Alan has helped raise millions of dollars organizing and conducting charity auctions around the globe. His work for such organizations as Thresholds, Pritzker Military Library, the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, First Tee, American Diabetes Association, College Bound Opportunities, Illinois Lodging and Hospitality Association Scholarship, and many others has made a tremendous philanthropic impact.
He co-authored “The Auction Advantage in the Disposition of Real Estate” for The Secured Lender, “A Guide to Representing Sellers at Auction”, which was published by the American Bar Association in The Compleat Lawyer, and “Going, Going, Gone”, for the American Bar Association. He is widely quoted as an expert in real estate and disposition strategies.
Alan is a licensed Illinois attorney and is licensed as a Real Estate Broker or Salesperson in 12 states, including Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York and New Jersey. He is a member of several Bar Associations and the National Association of Realtors®.
